Dr Christopher Dredge
Dr Christopher Dredge graduated with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield in 2015. Following his undergraduate degree, he completed an internship as a machinist for a manufacturing company. In 2016, Dr Dredge joined the Centre for Doctoral Training in Machining Science to complete an EngD sponsored by Rolls-Royce (EPSRC funded).
Past Research Focus
As an EngD project with a strong industrial focus, Dr Dedge's primary goal was to address a practical problem: the industrial application aimed to enhance chip control for a new titanium alloy. The second output, serving as a bridge between academia and industry, focused on understanding the fundamental mechanisms for chip control and their influence on machinability as a whole.
The research involved conducting machining trials on material obtained from full-scale component operations and utilizing small-scale cutting test rigs. The samples, no larger than 15 x 15 x 60 mm, were developed at the University to streamline the development process for future emerging titanium alloys.
